This summer, only one opponent stood between Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and the FIFA World Cup trophy: Spain. La Roja beat both Argentina in the final a little less than weeks after defeating Portugal on a 91st-minute goal in the round of 16. Two of the greatest careers in the sport’s history—and in the history of sports—both ending their World Cup runs against the same opponent, in the same summer…and as is always the case with Messi and Ronaldo, it added more fuel to the never-ending debate: Who is the GOAT soccer player?
Look, we get it. Some of you are supporting Messi, and some of you are riding with Ronaldo. Thankfully, we’re not here to pick a side when it comes to La Pulga and CR7.
